Eyes Ever to the Sky by Katie French Review

17912893[1]Goodreads Description: When Hugh wakes up in a smoldering crater—no memory, no clothes—a single thought echoes in his head…trust no one. Frightened and alone, with no memory of who he is, he stumbles upon a grisly murder scene and is fatally shot.  He wakes, only to find he can heal himself. He has superpowers, and he’s going to need them.

Desperate and bleeding, Hugh stumbles upon fifteen-year-old Cece, who’s got enough troubles of her own. Between caring for her bipolar mother and trying not to get evicted from her run-down trailer, Cece may be the only person struggling as much as Hugh. Drawn to Hugh, Cece finds a love she’s never known. But when the real killer—a man-hunting beast—chooses another victim, Hugh and Cece realize they must unlock the clues to their past if they have any chance at a future

My Rating: 4.5 out of 5 Stars

My thoughts: I loved this book. I think it had a healthy combination of Sci-fi and paranormal romance in it. I liked the twist the author put in the book, how you would think it’s post-apocalyptic. But I wouldn’t really consider it to be in that genre. I don’t know how to display my feelings without giving away the ending! I liked how Hugh is modest and protective. That (to me) is very attractive. And how Cece is independent. Why I didn’t give it a full 5 stars is because I feel like the author could’ve enhanced the book a tad bit and made it even more amazing than it already is. I can’t really say anymore without giving away the book but I highly recommend this to paranormal readers!

Spoilers:

“He tore the package open with his teeth savagely. Meat juices slid over his tongue and his stomach seized. He sucked down eight hot dogs,”

Ok I don’t know if anyone does this on a regular basis. Maybe because I’m a vegetarian? But I was really grossed out when Hugh ate the pack of hot dogs cold. I mean maybe people just pop uncooked hot dogs in their mouths everyday! I wouldn’t know because I would never even touch a cooked hot dog..

“Hugh blinked and probed it with his fingers.

There was no wound…

It felt like he’d taken a proper punch, but not a gunshot wound. It was like…like he has healed.”

This got me thinking. When Hugh woke up after being shot, he didn’t see a bullet anywhere. He felt his stomach which had healed itself. So that could only mean the bullet is still inside of him…

“Shaun got tickets to Avenged Sevenfold tomorrow night!”

I just have to say that a freakin’ love that band! I have one of their t-shirts I got while I was down in Arizona a couple of summers ago.

“Cece ran over. “Hugh!” she screamed. She grabbed a metal ice cream scoop from the counter and whacked the beast in the head.”

I laughed so hard at this part! This is an example of a stupid teenage girl, right here. Hugh told her to run. The beast is after her! And at least grab something useful. She grabbed a metal ice cream scooper!! Hahaha

“Hugh kicked, leaning down to bite Nomad’s neck.”

I have to admit. I also laughed at this part, Hugh would be a very sexy vampire (;
